Relaxing Shower Steamer

Personally I find it hard to have a shower that is peaceful and relaxing, for me it is practical and quick. In out, shake it all about. Jobs a good ‘un. For me baths are were it is at, I’m the sort of person who can easily spend over an hour in one, feeling the comfort of the warm water wash over me and actually spend time doing nothing, and in a room were no one can disturb me. Utter bliss. As a person who always on the go this is a rare situation for me to be in. A relaxing bath is no longer a privilege I have access to, our new(ish) house didn’t come with a bath, the previous owners replaced it with a shower you can dance in (their words), and it’s not the same. Then along came the discovery of shower steamers…ooo!

Now I’m not spending an hour in the shower, I’m spending the same amount of time as I always do, however these days I can pop one of these beautiful things in the bottom of the shower tray and the room is filled with relaxing scent, and I now do a little dance of joy at being able to add an element of self care into my bodily washing.

They also happen to make a great gift, especially if you package them up in a beautiful box or jar, so why not take a look at the recipe and how to below to find out how you can make your showers spa like!

And relax…

What you will need:
  • 200g bicarbonate of soda
  • 100g citric acid
  • 100g cornflour
  • 2-3 tbsp of water
  • Essential oils of your choosing
  • Mould or place to hold your shapes
Method:

Making sure you’re wearing gloves, tip the bicarb, citric acid and cornflour into a bowl, then mix the dry ingredients together.

Carefully add the water, a tbsp at a time, mixing it all together in between additions, the water will cause the mixture to fizz up, but you don’t want it to do it too much or it won’t hold together, so do be careful at this stage. Combine until it looks like damp sand or it can hold it’s shape in your hand.

Add the essential oils. I added 60 drops of each, then mix it together.

Place your mixture in your moulds, or use your hands to shape them, and leave it overnight to dry.

Once dry you can package the shower steamers however you like. When you’re ready to use them simply place one in the tray of your shower and let the warm water do it’s thing!
