I remember the first time I made a tiramisu (bare with me this is a post about cushions) I nearly threw it away. I honestly thought I’d gone completely wrong even though I’d followed the recipe. Once everything was assembled it looked like a mess, a sloppy, cream covered mess, and it wasn’t cheap to make either. Wasted time, money, and good food. With a deep sigh and strong encouragement from the husband I popped it into the fridge anyway. Might as well do the final step he said. Can always get rid of it afterwards he said. You never know he said.
He was right. After the allotted waiting time, I went to check in on my attempt and would you know it, it looked like a tiramisu! An actual, real life, almost like the picture tiramisu. And it was delicious. Why am I telling you this story? Well I had a similar experience with this craft. There is a stage, and I’m sure you’ll reach it, where you’re tying to tassels together and it looks and feels like a mess. A far cry from this beautiful, cute cushion you were trying to make. You’ve got to bare with it. Once you reach the stuffing stage, suddenly the whole thing transforms into the dream you planned it to be, and the dream gift you wanted to give to your loved one on Valentine’s day.
So let’s crack on.
What you will need:
- Fabric, I use left over velvet fabric from a previous project
- Scissors
- Card
- Pen
- Stuffing
Method:
Draw out your template onto a piece of card, cut it out and draw around your fabric. I placed two layers of the fabric on top of each other so I only needed to cut out once. Because of this I pinned the fabric pieces together.
Cut the shape out, making sure you cut out extra around it so you can make the tassels. You want this to be plenty big because you will need to double tie the tassels, I’d recommend two inches.
Once you’ve got the shape out, cut your tassels. Cut from the edge of the fabric to the line from drawing around your template.
Begin tying the tassels together. Remember to tie each one twice to secure it into place, otherwise it will unravel when you begin stuffing.
Leave a small section not tied, and begin stuffing the cushion. Make sure you get plenty in there.
Once you’re happy with the amount of stuffing tie the remaining tassels.
And you’re done.
